WHAT ARE MALAS AND MALA BEADS?
Mala beads or Mala are much more than beautiful garlands, they have been used in Hinduism and Buddhism for centuries as a meditation aid. Although they are often called “prayer beads”, anyone can wear them as a reminder of their intention, and seek their personal balance beyond religious believes.
Our Malas have 108 beads, a very sacred and traditional number. When practicing meditation, hold your mala in your hand and turn each bead with your thumb and middle finger, counting them while repeating your intention or your mantra (word, sound, or phrase repeated to aid in your concentration). As you repeat the chosen intention or mantra while counting, you are affirming it to yourself, allowing its meaning to go deep into your soul.
